Power Usage Calculator
This calculator has two sections. The top section is for power usage by lights and appliances that use 240 volt ac power (from the inverter or mains power). Fill in the description, power rating (wattage) and time usage of each item that will be powered by the inverter. The lower section of the form is for DC loads (ie. that run straight from the battery).

1) Total AC Power Used (WattHrs/Wk)
2) Correct for inverter losses - Multiply by 1.15 (WattHrs/Wk)
3) DC system voltage(usually 12, 24 or 48 volts)
4) Total amp hours per week used by AC loads - Divide line 2 by line 3

As a very approximate general rule of thumb, you could allow about one 80 watt solar panel for every 20 - 25 Amp-hrs of daily power usage in cool sunny weather. Remember to allow for other weather conditions.
