Solar Heating for Swimming Pools & Spas

Floor Slab Heating, Fish Hatcheries & Greenhouse Tanks
We're experts at Swimming Pool Heating
Servicing both domestic & commercial applications

Solazone can heat your pool using solar energy, with or without gas / electric back-up.

There is very little logic in paying a great deal for something and then only using it part time, yet thousands of Australians are doing just that, right now.

We're talking about the great Australian part time pool owner. He's probably someone just like you, who, like everyone else, uses his pool for only about three months of the year and then lets it lie there, costing time and money the rest of the time.

Your very efficient, simple and very low cost solution to this situation is a solazone solar pool heating system.

A beautifully effective way to extend your swimming season, and all the good times, by many months every year. Apart from all this extra swimming time, you can be sure of a comfortable dip every day during the swimming season. And no more planning a mid-summer pool party only to find that the pool is too cold, and no one wants to swim.

And the really big benefit of a solar pool heating system, once installed, is that it runs on the sun's energy, so it will cost you next to nothing to keep your pool at around summer swimming temperatures for extra months of the year.

As any solar system relies on the sun's energy, quite naturally average pool temperatures are going to vary with the weather, and from year to year. To give you some idea, the above graph shows an average daytime result, based on an average absorber area related to your pool's surface area, and location. Solar heating is viable with a solar collector area covering a roof space as little as 60% of your pool's surface area. However, we would recommend around the same solar collector area as that of the swimming pool, for the best results, combined with an automatic temperature control system that allows you to set the desired pool temperature.

We supply several types of pool solar heaters, in order to best match your pool type, roof and budget.
All are available in tailor-made, do-it-yourself kits, or fully installed.

  • Note: Due to State Government legislation, installation is not offered in the State of Queensland for some projects over the value of $3300, pending approval of our QBSA licence application.
Details of the specific types of projects that may be affected are available from Solazone, or QBSA on (07)3405 3928

    1. Solazone Polypipe Solar Pool Heating - (Click for details)

Solazone manufacture two types of unique poly-pipe solar water heating systems, that are used extensively on metal and fibro roofs. These systems are robust, easy to assemble, and more economical than other available systems. They are great for large pools and long, narrow roofs. These collectors are not damaged by cockatoos or possums.

    2. Solazone Hydromatt Solar Pool Heating (Click for details)

This is the easiest and probably most efficient solar pool heating system available. Consists of strips of 10 flattened tubes that expose the water directly to the sun, and easily connects to the PVC headers using unique ABS manifolds.

  • SLATE ROOF INSTALLATION
    Hydromatt on a slate roof
Ideal for tiled roofs, slate roofs or highly visible roofs, but works really well on any roof.
Solazone uses a flat rubber strip system called Hydromatt.
The collector strips consist of flattened 6mm tubes joined together to create a mat.

    3. Solazone Sunlover Coloured Solar Heating (Call us for details)

    For highly visible roofs
    Solazone uses sunlover coloured collector

    4. Solartherm Glazed Solar Pool Heating (Call us for details)

This is probably the most effective system on the market for swimming all year round, or for use in indoor pools, or pools in cool climate zones.
The solar collectors are made from high density polyethylene, encased in aluminium boxes with clear polycarbonate covers.
Because of their construction, these collectors are really effective, even on cold, sunny winter days.

    Operating the solar heater

Solar pool heating systems are usually fully automated, with temperature sensors measuring the pool and roof temperatures, and switching the pump on and off as required. This ensures the best possible heating results.

    Sizing your solar collector

Solazone recommend the solar collector area be equal to, or greater than, your pool surface area, and add extra collector area if the pool is indoors, in shade or a windy location. Generally, in Australia the best results come from a north - facing roof.
Flat, east, and west - facing roofs have also found to be good, depending upon location, but you may need more collector area to compensate.

    Do it yourself installation kits

Solazone provide a free design service for our fully detailed do-it-yourself kits, which come with full sizing and installation instructions. Send us accurate details of the pool and roof sizes, and a contact number in case we need more details. We also provide fully installed systems, where all you have to do is switch on at the start of the swimming season.
