Pool Blankets & Covers

Pool blankets reduce chemical costs, heating costs and pool maintenance

Solar blankets Heavy duty solar blankets Oz-Bubble Thermal blankets

Oz-Bubble Pool Blanket
Solar Pool Blankets increase the effect of solar gain and reduce heat losses.
We recommend using a pool blanket with solar pool heating systems since it is a proven method of retaining the heat gained by the solar heating during the day.

Solar Pool Blankets

Solar blankets (bubble blankets) lower pool heating costs by up to 75% - by reducing the radiated heat loss and almost eliminating evaporative heat loss.

Solar blankets lower chemical costs. During the hot summer months, evaporation can cause the average household pool to lose up to 10,000 litres of water per month. By keeping this loss to a minimum, solar pool blankets substantially reduce the topping up required to maintain the pool's correct chemical balance.

Solar blankets lower maintenance. With a solar pool blanket fitted to your pool, leaves and debris are quickly hosed off the surface of the blanket to be collected in the skimmer box. Save hours each year in time consuming vacuuming and cleaning.

How does the solar pool blanket work?
Short wavelength solar energy passes easily through the solar blanket and is absorbed into the water. Heat retained in the water which radiates at longer wavelengths, is restricted by the special design of the blanket so it can't readily dissipate into the surrounding atmosphere.

Warranty: Solar pool blankets for in-ground pools are covered by a limited warranty that covers both workmanship and materials, subject to full compliance with all conditions for installation, storage and use. Refer to the warranty card for details.

Note that solar pool blankets are not to be used as safety covers, and access to the pool must be restricted for young children and animals.

Heavy Duty Solar Pool Blankets

These are a brand new product for 2005.

Heavy duty solar is ideal for commercial pools, or where a heavier duty cover is required. It is substantially stronger than the standard solar blankets, and offers all of the same benefits of the solar pool blanket. It gains its great strength from a layer of canvacon mesh material bonded to the top, and comes in clear/blue or blue/silver colours.
Obviously, as it is a heavier material than the Suncap solar pool blanket, it will require a little more effort to roll up and to unroll onto the pool.

Warranty is the same as for the standard solar pool blanket.

Oz bubble Solar Pool Blankets

Oz bubble solar pool blankets are available in a range of sizes, colours and thicknesses, to suit every application.

To select the correct thickness: (the size of the bubbles is exactly the same; it is only the thickness of the plastic that varies)

- 300 micron solar blankets are inexpensive, lightweight and very easy to handle. You should expect 3 to 4 seasons out of them with proper care.

- 400 micron blankets are the most commonly used because of their durability and ease of handling. Yhey are available in the widest range of colours, and you can expect 4 to 6 seasons out of them.

- 500 micron version is tough, somewhat stiffer, and very durable. It is ideal where the blanket is likely to encounter occasional rough handling or where small sticks are likely to drop onto the pool cover. It is heavier that the other types, and can be more difficult to handle on and off the water.

Oz-Bubble Care and Installation Instructions

Features of the OZ-BUBBLE SOLAR POOL COVER:

Installation of a solar pool blanket should be a simple procedure, and with care the solar blanket should fit neatly on your pool, effectively cutting the costs of heating and cleaning. All year round the solar blanket works to conserve evaporative water and heat loss, raising the temperature of your pool approximately 5 to 8 degrees above that of an uncovered pool. The solar blanket is an innovative and effective way to save on the costs of maintaining your swimming pool. Using the free energy of the sun the solar pool cover keeps your pool warmer all year round, extending your swimming season beyond that of an uncovered pool. The solar blanket also helps to keep your pool clean and free of debris, saving on filter maintenance.

Fitting the OZ-BUBBLE SOLAR POOL COVER:

Before trimming your pool cover it is necessary to float the cover on your pool for a few hours, allowing any packing creases to settle. It may take longer when the weather is overcast, sunny days are best for this procedure. The OZ-BUBBLE SOLAR POOL BLANKET should be placed on the surface of your pool with the bubble side facing downward.
When your cover has settled it is ready to cut, a pair of sharp household scissors can be used for this job. The solar blanket should be cut 3 to 5 cm over the edge of your pool and up the tiles, take care that it remains below the rim of the pool. Your cover will float on the pool surface with the edges curved up the tiling, creating a dish like effect, preventing any debris from entering the pool. With your scissors cut a small flap (approximately 5 cm) in the pool blanket for your skimmer box. This will allow you to hose any debris that collects on your cover into the skimmer box, keeping your pool clean and saving you money on unnecessary filter maintenance.

It is important to take care when cutting your blanket as it is easy to cut too much off! It is best to make the cover a little too big at first, and then trim it to the exact size a few days later when the blanket has settled, and you are sure of the positioning. If two people are present when the blanket is being cut, it makes the task so much easier - one to do the cutting and the other to hold the blanket steady in place. This will help to ensure that the blanket is not accidentally cut too small. Once your blanket has been cut to size, it does not require weights or ties to keep it in place. With the bubble side placed downward, it will remain in position through both heavy winds and rain.

How to protect your Solar Pool Blanket:

Folded or Rolled, your OZ-BUBBLE Solar Pool Blanket should be protected from high temperatures and direct sunlight. All plastic materials will naturally deteriorate when exposed to sunlight, with the addition of UV stabilizers this deterioration is slowed. Your swimming area is one of the harshest environments for any plastic product. Sunlight chlorine and heat will all take their toll on the UV stabilizing system in your solar pool cover. Excessive exposure to these elements will accelerate the usage of the UV stabilizer, thus reducing the life span of your pool cover, and voiding your warranty. For this purpose the protective Over-cover that is provided with your solar pool blanket roller must be in place at all times when your solar blanket is not on the pool. (Over covers are also available for purchase separately.)
The same sunlight properties that are used by your blanket for its heating purposes, may cause your blanket to be damaged if it is not kept below the recommended temperature. If your blanket is not stored below 45 degC, damage to the material may be irreparable. Extra high temperatures may cause layers of the blanket to fuse together when it is stored.

DAMAGE CAUSED BY IMPROPER USE OF THE SOLAR POOL BLANKET, OVER-CHLORINATION, AND EXPOSURE TO DIRECT SUNLIGHT WHEN OFF THE POOL, WILL RESULT IN VOIDING THE WARRANTY.

Cleaning and storing your Solar Pool Blanket:

All that is required for the cleaning of your OZ-BUBBLE solar blanket is a soft brush and clean cold water. Any time you plan to store your blanket away, it is important to make sure that you hose it off any chlorine with clean cold water. This will prevent chlorine concentration, which is damaging to the life span of the blanket. Mildew or algae build up can be easily removed by lightly scrubbing the solar blanket with a soft brush or rag. These substances are not damaging to the solar pool blanket. If you are planning to store your blanket for long period of time, (i.e. over winter) allow it to dry first, to prevent the growth of any mould and mildew.

Removing and replacing your solar pool cover:

Removing and replacing your Solar Pool Cover should be a simple procedure, especially with your Solazone pool blanket roller. Our roller is designed to be compact, portable and easy to use, one person can easily reel the blanket from your pool and cover it, with little difficulty. The special UV resistant cover is provided to protect your blanket from the sun's damaging rays. You MUST ensure that this cover is used whenever your pool blanket is not in use on the pool, even if it is only for a short period of time. Replacing your pool cover is just as simple as removing it, one person can unroll the blanket back onto the pool with ease.
If you do not wish to use a pool blanket roller, it is best to fold your solar pool blanket in a concertina fashion. One-meter lengths are best for easy storage. Whether you use this method or any other, a sun cover is still necessary for the protection of your pool blanket, when it is off the pool.
WARNING:
THIS PRODUCT IS NOT A SAFETY COVER AND IS NOT DESIGNED TO SUPPORT A PERSON.
NEVER ENTER THE SWIMMING POOL WHILST THE COVER IS IN PLACE.

Thermal Pool Covers

Coverup Pool Blanket Cover-Up is the latest concept in thermal pool covers suitable for both commercial and domestic pools. Designed and manufactured in Australia, Cover-Up incorporates materials that are tough, durable and able to withstand the harsh chlorine environment and adverse weather conditions.

Reduces heating costs - When heated pools are left uncovered, the water temperature can drop by as much as 6 degrees C overnight. Heating costs are reduced by as much as $250 per month for a 50 square metre pool maintained at 26 degrees C. For large commercial pools, the savings are substantially larger, providing an excellent return on investment.

Cover-Up virtually eliminates water evaporation, the major cause of water and chemical waste. It thus also provides significant cost savings in these areas.

The exceptional insulation and strength properties of Cover-Up are a result of its unique flame bonded, multilayer construction. Insulation is provided by a closed cell cross-linked polyethylene foam, one of the best insulating materials available. For added strength and protection, the foam is sandwiched between a tough, UV-stabilized woven polyethylene fabric and a black UV-stabilized polyethylene film. Both fabrics are waterproof, non-toxic and chemically resistant.

Cover-Up is lightweight, flexible and can be made to fit any pool size and shape. With the aid of a suitable roller the pool can be easily covered or uncovered, in minutes.

Pool Blankets and Rollers are our forte.

We are often asked to supply specially modified pool blankets, and roller systems, that are made easier to use, by:
- fitting a float & draw rope to the leading edge
- fitting wind protection edges along the sides
- fitting spreader & harness to allow more than one blanket to be mounted on the same roller
- fitting tie down ropes, as required
